ABOUT JOHN DEVINE

John is a frequent invited speaker at industry conferences, including the AIA National Convention. He has earned awards from the Atlanta Chapter of American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) for his educational seminar series. He also speaks at a number of conferences for subcontracting associations, including the American Society of Subcontractors (ASA), Association of Fire Sprinkler Contractors, and Masonry Contractors Association.
 
Prior to consulting, John was President and owner of JHD Construction in Atlanta, Georgia from 1989 to 2003. JHD Construction was the recipient and nominee of many awards, including the Build Georgia Award presented by the Associated General Contractors of America and the Character and Leadership Award presented by Turknett Leadership Group.
 
John served on the Board of Directors for the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Georgia Chapter from 2001 to 2003. He held the position Certification Chairperson for the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) Atlanta Chapter from 2003 to 2005.
 
Before founding JHD Construction, John worked as a senior estimator and project manager for several firms where he estimated and managed the construction of banks, churches, research laboratories, and  several high-rise buildings, including a 23-story addition to the Atlanta Merchandise Mart in downtown Atlanta.
 
John is a retired Commander of the U. S. Naval Reserves Civil Engineer Corps and was a decorated U.S. Naval aviator stationed on the USS Enterprise from 1969 - 1971. John has a BS in Building Construction from Georgia Tech, where he is often an invited guest speaker for graduate programs.

 

John is a highly respected consultant in the construction industry. With more than 40 years of experience, John has contributed to thousands of estimations, bids and construction projects. John now devotes his time and expertise to helping clients, including general contractors, subcontractors and architects, in all aspects of construction cost estimating, quantity surveying, and the bid process. John also provides training and seminars throughout North America for firms, universities and individuals in the areas of reading and interpreting construction documents, estimating, pricing and bid creation.  

John’s client base includes construction companies of all sizes with projects ranging from $100,000 to more than $50 million; architects requesting seminars to better understand the estimation, pricing and bid process; and individuals requesting hands-on training.
